What's a content designer, anyway?
I make sure people get the information they need from physical and digital products by making it easy to find, understand, and act on. And as a content design leader, I’m responsible for the success (and happiness) of my team—as well as the quality of the experiences they design. These days, I'm a Director of Content Design in Meta’s Reality Labs, where I lead a team of over 30 incredibly talented folks.
I live in Chicago with my husband, two kids, and two cats—and spend my off-hours hunching over a pottery wheel, exploring Chicago (and the world) with my family, cooking (but never baking), and organizing everything around me by color.
Skills
Content design team development:
Defining how content design fits within a larger UX team and product org; hiring the right people, defining growth paths, and developing the team’s skill sets; developing engagement models, prioritizing work, and selling the discipline’s value; running reviews and ensuring content quality across an experience.
Content strategy:
Defining what content is needed across an experience, where it should live, and what form it should take.
UX writing:
Writing content that's clear, human, and engaging across digital channels.
Content engineering
Structuring and tagging content on our back-end to enable clear and useful content on our front-end.
Information architecture
Organizing information and data so it's easy to find and understand.
Content research and testing:
Learning what users need to know and how they think. Putting content in front of them to make sure it meets their needs and is easy to understand.
Content operations
Developing guidelines and processes to enable content designers (and others!) to do great content work.
